Rethinking Our Federal Forests

Proper management lets forests be a part of climate solutions. Unfortunately, today’s legal gridlock and outdated policies interfere with modern forest management on federal lands and leave forests vulnerable to large, severe wildfires, insect infestations and invasive species—all major factors which directly contribute to global warming. Our forests can and should be an asset instead of a liability.

Tackle Climate Change – Use Wood

A new book that emphasizes the critical role forests and forest products can play in developing practical solutions is now available. Tackle Climate Change – Use Wood highlights the benefits of working forests in achieving climate goals and explains how using wood can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase clean-energy production and sustain forests for generations. It demonstrates how we can help our economy and our environment.

WELL-MANAGED FORESTS ARE HEALTHY FORESTS

Responsible forest management produces healthy trees and habitats that generate cleaner air and "green" building materials and consumer products. Healthy forests draw in and store carbon and release oxygen. Unmanaged forests—those that are left to overgrow or fall victim to mass wildfire—actually harm the environment by emitting large amounts of carbon in to the atmosphere.

Wood is Good, Naturally

  • Our Forests Play An Important Role in Moderating Global Warming

Sound forest management practices promote healthy forest ecosystems, cleaner air and environmentally friendly building materials and consumer products. When managed properly, our forests benefit our environment because they are more resilient to wildfire, absorb more carbon and produce more oxygen every year.
